Universality? Cross-linguistic influence?

چکیده

Abstract The present study investigated the use of apology response (AR) strategies by L1-Chinese L2-English learners and L1-English L2-Chinese from a cross-linguistic perspective. A total 18 Taiwanese college students who were learning English as foreign language foreigners in Taiwan Chinese second recruited to complete an oral discourse completion task both English. major findings are follows: First, two groups showed no significant difference their choice AR strategies, favoring Acceptance Minimization, face-preserving types, show politeness. Second, influence was found affect our participants’ performances. Both positive negative influences occurred. Finally, regarding multiple participants tended combine with other maintain social relationships. results universal language-specific features realizations dominant namely highlights profound politeness principles.
